A longtime restaurateur has expanded with a new restaurant in Goochland.
Paolo Randazzo and his wife, Rhonda, quietly opened the doors a week ago to Portico, an upscale Italian restaurant on River Road.
Construction on the space at 12506 River Road, formerly the home of Edible Garden, has been underway since spring.
Randazzo also owns Sensi, an Italian restaurant in the River District that he has run since 2005. He previously was the chef and owner of Franco’s Ristorante on West Broad Street for 20 years before it closed.
Edible Garden, a restaurant that served locally grown fare, closed in 2009 after four years in business. Read more on that here.

Good news, Franco’s was sublime. I don’t know why they had to tear down the beautiful garden and replace the elegant blue slate patio with rough fake stone paving, tho. It was such a beautiful place and now it looks like a fake Italian patio in Las Vegas.
Bummer, I can’t tell anything from this picture, hurry up with the website.
It’s always been a beautiful location and Randazzo has clearly poured a great deal of love into the improvements. I’m very happy to see the proprietor of Francos and Sensi invest in Goochland. Welcome, and buona fortuna.
We had the opportunity to dine at Portico this weekend and were blown away by the food and the atmosphere. If you are looking for blue stone stop by Luck Stone. If you are looking for a fantastic dining experience stop by Portico. Congrats Paulo and Rhonda.
Thank you Mr and Mrs Randazzo for spending your money hiring a contractor to do your renovation. Thank you for employing cooks and wait staff. Thank you for buying fruits and vegetables and meats and bread from local vendors. Thank you for stimulating our economy. Take pride in giving back to your country. I will certainly patronize your restaurant as should everyone who lives nearby or just wants a good meal. Salute. I wish you well.
I’m going to Portico tonight ! I can’t wait !!
wow!! how wonderful to have this restaurant just up the road…beautiful atmosphere, outdoor dining with heated tile floor, fireplace, and heaters….and a terrific menu with such great variety. Chef Randazzo makes everything taste great – although I recommend his italian dishes where he is most talented. we had a chocolate dessert (with an italian name – that we translated to chocolate bomb!) and it was to AMAZING…had to fight off my friend for the last bite (after she said she would only take one – hahaha)
